Dear Journal:
Today I read a couple of blogs from the American Soldier in Iraq. There was one that got my eye, "Submerged in a River in Egypt". This blog made me think about the War, and if it's really a War about Terrorism or a Republican and Democratic power War. Buck Sargent say that George W. Bush is doing this country just like what "Uncle Tom's Cabin did to Slavery", putting it out in the fields to work his labor and his hands stay clean. He goes on talking about "I've noticed a trend among people who persist in calling for a return to the draft, then always seem to be well past service age or you don't see too many of these placards being hoisted on College campuses, but what these artists fail to realize is that contrary to popular belief the Military draft is still very much alive. As of 1973 it's been entirely optional. I agree with Buck Sargent opinion about the War being for a Political stand and not for terrorism or American safety, because I come to realize that the area in which the War is being fought has nothing to do with the 911 accident or people that started it. I agree with your comparison of the war to slavery because it is very similar indeed. Innocent working-class people getting sent into the war to do Bush’s dirty work while as you put it” his hands stay clean.” It’s sad that people have to go through this when the war is not even about the safety of the American people. When in all actuality it’s about oil and the control that America wants to have on all the third world countries.

I agree with you that the war we are fighting right now has nothing to do with 9/11. If t was we would be in Afghanistan by now not Iraq. The whole war right now is about oil and Bush forcing innocent people to go to their deaths to get him more money. In this instance it is very simlar to slavery.

I agree comparing the war to slavery is an interesting comparison. Low and middle class men are the main targets to be drafted to war while the President and leader’s children are living a life with no worries. If they believe that the war is so necessary and they are being so patriotic about it, why don’t they send their children? The master sends the slaves.

Your post struck me the most from all the others. I loved how you made a comparison with slavery and the war in Iraq. I think everyone did realize that this war is not over 9/11 but more about Iraq’s resources. It’s sad that Bush used 9/11 and mass destruction as he excuse to invade Iraq. It was his way of keeping his hands clean. Bush targets men and women who don’t really have anything going for them. And even Jose V. the veteran mentioned this (class speaker). Nevertheless, he sends them to war to do his dirty work. He knew Americans were sensitive about the attack on the World Trade Centers which is why he used that as a reason to declare war on an innocent country, Iraq. -H.T
